Home Remedies for Stain Removal
Gum
Use the aerosol Oops to soften the gum. Use a blunt knife to break of the gum. Repeat process until gum is removed. Try to avoid getting Oops into backing of carpet. It can weaken the latex glue.
Fruit Juice and soda
Blot up as much excess as you can with a towel. Mix 1 tablespoon of household ammonia with 1/2 cup warm water. Rinse and then follow up by mixing a solution of 1/3 cup of white household vinegar with 2/3 cup water. Rinse thoroughly with water. Repeat as necessary.
Red Wine
Blot up as much excess as you can with an absorbent towel. Mix 1 tablespoon of household ammonia with 1/2 cup warm water. Rinse thoroughly with water. Repeat as necessary. You can also try enzymes like you would use for urine. For fresh stains using white wine will often work. Make sure you then rinse white wine from carpet. Club soda has also been found to work on fresh wine spills.
Wax
Carefully remove as much of the excess with a table knife (not a sharp knife) place either a brown paper bag, a white paper towel or an damp absorbent clothe over wax. Heat an iron to medium heat. Heated wax will wick into brown paper bag, towel or cloth. Use caution so you don’t scorch or melt the carpet fibers.
Fresh paint (water soluble)
Remove excess paint by blotting with an absorbent towel. Work from the outside of the area in. Rinse and blot dry. Repeat as necessary to remove paint.
Water stains
Use a mixture of one part vinegar to five parts water, using a watering can saturate fibers of carpets. Let sit for 10 minutes then extract or blot up.
Old paint
The method depends on how much paint. Little surface dribbles-use aerosol Oops, gently scrape paint with blunt knife the blot with white cloth. Larger spills- It would be best if you had some sort of a wet extraction machine. Mix one half cup household ammonia with one quart hot water, apply to carpet and gently scrub in. Blot up or use extraction machine. Repeat until paint is gone. Flush area with water and extract, and then use one half cup white vinegar to one quart of water, flush and extract. Get the carpet as dry as possible and use preventative procedure to prevent wicking.
For Kool-Aid stains
Call Interlink 349 -0911, ask for Vanessa and ask her for a quart of red dye remover. Follow instructions. You will need clean white towel like rags and an iron. I would suggest getting one from Salvation Army so you don’t mess up your good iron. Choose one with lots of steam vents.
Ink
Remove visible ink by blotting with an absorbent towel. Work from the outside of the area in. Use the aerosol Oops solvent and blot being careful not to let solvent get to backing of carpet. Apply household rubbing alcohol to area. Blot with a clean absorbent towel. Repeat as often as needed to remove ink.
Tar, grease or oil
If you have a lump of tar or grease carefully remove as much of the excess with a table knife (not a sharp knife) Then apply aerosol Oops and blot with absorbent cloth. If still see trace of stain, mix 1 tablespoon of household ammonia with 1/2 cup warm water. Rinse and then follow up by mixing a solution of 1/3 cup of white household vinegar with 2/3 cup water. Rinse and blot dry.
Nail Polish
Carefully remove as much of the excess with a table knife (not a sharp knife) Always work from the outside of the affected area in. Carefully blot with nail polish remover. Do not use nail polish remover with acetone. Repeat as necessary to remove discoloration. You can also try household rubbing alcohol.
Coffee or Tea
Blot up as much excess as you can with an absorbent towel. Apply a solution of 1/3 cup of white household vinegar with 2/3 cup water. Rinse thoroughly with water. Repeat as necessary to remove discoloration.
Pet Urine
Either Use Natures miracle in the carpet and leave wet for a prolonged period of time to let the enzymes eat the odor causing bacteria or you can try and Dilute 2 table spoons of vinegar into a cup of water and saturate pet urine stain. Use dry towels to soak up any moisture in the carpet.
